About Driving For Donors
Did you know that 70% of people who need a bone marrow transplant won't find a match within their own family and must rely on the National Marrow Donor Program (NMDP) Registry to find a matching donor?
Did you know that it costs money to join the National Marrow Registry? It costs approximately $52 per person to pay for tissue typing fees to get added to the Registry!
Did you know that there is a critical shortage of minority donors on the National Marrow Registry?
DRIVING FOR DONORS began in 2007 as a nationwide event where my family and I traveled around the country in a special "Donormobile" . We worked work with The National Marrow Donor Program, The Marrow Foundation, law enforcement departments, local donor centers and businesses and the media to host successful donor drives in over 30 major cities! My original goal was to add 2007 new donors to the National Marrow Registry in 2007 but we surpassed that goal and added over 6500 donors in 2007! We raised over $100,000 for tissue typing fees and drive expenses by selling advertising on my bald head!
DRIVING FOR DONORS generated so much international interest that we plan on making DRIVING FOR DONORS 2008 an INTERNATIONAL TOUR! Tour locations and events are currently being planned and we really need your help! help Please contact us to see how you can help support DRIVING FOR DONORS or to host a DRIVING FOR DONORS 2008 event in your area!
